Defining the deVinery Isness Parallax
What is the deVinery Isness* Parallax? What does it do? What does it make possible?
Parallax reveals both a way to reveal a distortion in perception and a way to measure the correct location to target.
The way the word parallax is normally used refers to a visual distortion in perception, but here I am using it as a way to reveal and measure a distortion of meaning about the reality of any given situation. Not metaphorically or philosophically. Practically.
It reveals perception distortions in:
what the problem appears to be
what matters
what caused it
what should be solved
who should pay
what actions appear available
This is especially relevant in any relational situation where decisions about data are being made by humans, agentic or physical AI or by global systems.
To understand it, you need to first experience it.
Try this standard parallax exercise:

Instructions: Look at the place where two walls and the ceiling meet. Find the exact point where all three meet.
Now stay seated where you are and hold your thumb out so that it covers that exact spot. You can no longer see the triple joint point.
Without moving your hand, close one eye.
Did the spot move?
Now open that eye and close the other.
Did it move again?
So where is the spot really?
There is a gap between our mind’s story about where the spot is and the reality of where that spot is. The reality is what I call the localised isness of the relational dynamic playing out.
The deVinery Isness Parallax reveals how we are making the same mistake in the way we interpret data and decisions. We think we have hard facts and evidence-based data but there is an invisible layer that still distorts what we think we perceive, and it can result in unintended harm, millions of misspent dollars, effort and time. The deVinery Isness Parallax means we can catch the distortion before we commit dollars or irreversible actions with harmful impact.
What does this make possible?
Standard use of optical parallax is not really an optical illusion. It is the apparent displacement of an object when the observer’s position changes.
The object has not moved; the viewpoint has. And here is the most important part: the discrepancy between the views can then be used to work out where the object actually is.
Instead of revealing the displacement of an object, the deVinery Isness Parallax reveals the residual gap between the conceptual story of what we think is happening and the reality of what is happening by using three relational invariants as coordinates. (These invariants are the deVinery Grammar of desire).
If we wish to achieve a particular desired outcome, the parallax provides the correct target to problem-solve before we begin deciding how to solve it. It also expands the possibility space to reveal more options.

Said Succinctly
I take the ordinary geometric meaning of parallax and move it into representation / interpretation / problem-definition.
So instead of:
Different viewing positions → different apparent location of an object
We have:
Different relational positions → different apparent shape/location of the problem
And the discrepancy between those positions helps reveal the actual target.
To make it as simple as possible:
The deVinery Isness Parallax reveals the shape of the thing that is the subject of all our various stories about the thing.
We stop solving the wrong problem and/or having the wrong desired outcome as our north star.
